Here I am, on an Allegiant flight, sipping on a tiny plastic cup of Coke that holds less volume than my ironic sense of humor, and en-route from our lovely Appleton to the fantastic John Wayne Airport in Orange County. Why John Wayne you ask? The only truthful answer I have is, "Why not?"
Have you ever felt the giddy thrill of an adventure? That stomach-fluttering, pulse-racing sensation as you step onto your foreign destination - the charm of the unknown! Don't you just love it? I do! Unless that destination is John Wayne Airport. Not because it's a bad airport, but come on, how adventurous does an airport named after an actor famous for playing heroes in cowboy movies feel?
Don't get me wrong, I'm not flying from Appleton, the birthplace of Harry Houdini, to Orange County to track down Clint Eastwood! No, no. I embark on this trip with an open mind, ready to wrangle the joys and pitfalls that accompany each travel adventure. Yes, even those pitfalls that demand $7.99 for a ham sandwich so frightfully dull, even the ham looks surprised to have been chosen. After all, nothing screams adventure quite like an overpriced, underwhelming airline sandwich, right?
Now, if you're anything like me, you cherish every "bumpy" plane ride. Call me crazy, but I think turbulence makes life exciting. You've got your roller coasters, you've got your thrill rides, but have you ever been on a plane that decided to imitate a rodeo bull mid-flight? Allegiant airlines - sparing no effort in making every flight a trip to remember!
May I digress if I add that the flight attendants on Allegiant deserve a standing ovation for their impeccable service? Wide smiles plastered on their faces, clad in their smart uniforms, they're akin to cheerleaders of the sky. No request is too strange, no demand too absurd. Rule of thumb – if it pertains to in-flight snacks, the answer is, unfortunately, usually a heartbreaking 'no'.
But let's not forget our final destination! After this glorious flight, we'll be landing at the orange-washed beauty that is Orange County. Name a thing, you’ll find it here - the sparkling beaches and the enchanting Disneyland, not to mention the grandeur of historical landmarks like the Richard Nixon Library. But wait! Isn't that in Yorba Linda? Well, true. But in my defense, they didn't name an airport after him, did they?
Harry Houdini to John Wayne, Wizarding to Western – trading the streets of Appleton for the allure of Orange County in an aerodynamic tube of aluminum. So is life. Unpredictable. And just when you think you've had enough of these high altitude shenanigans, a beautiful sunset paints the horizon, making it all worthwhile.
Grab your cowboy hats and wave your magic wands – it's going to be a riveting adventure, folks! Take it from this travel warrior; when it's Appleton to Orange County, always fly Allegiant. You may not have the most mouth-watering airline sandwich, but hey, isn't 'excitement' the true flavor of life?
